Ready for What’s Ahead

There is something special about this time of year. Across North America, some school districts are already welcoming students back, while others are putting the final touches on preparations for the first day of school. Although our calendars may differ, we all share the same purpose: ensuring every student begins the school year safely and every transportation professional is prepared for the journey ahead.
As a lifelong school person, this has always been my favorite season. I have always loved the anticipation of a new beginning — the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, welcome students back, and embrace the possibilities that come with a fresh start. It’s also a wonderful reminder that, no matter where we serve, we are united by a shared commitment to students and to one another.
That same spirit is reflected throughout this issue of School BUSRide. Inside, you’ll find practical ideas, thoughtful conversations, and leadership insights designed to strengthen your operation, support your team, and inspire you throughout the year. I hope you’ll enjoy this issue and share it with your colleagues, supervisors, and district leadership.

Here at NAPT and the NAPT Foundation, we’re putting the finishing touches on what promises to be an outstanding conference. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your leadership skills, earn Professional Development Series (PDS) credentials, discover new ideas, or reconnect with colleagues from across North America, ACTS is designed to help you continue Building Leaders for the Route Ahead.
This summer has also reminded me how fortunate I am to be part of this profession. I had the opportunity to spend time with our Canadian affiliates, visit with many of our state affiliate leaders, and connect with members at workshops and conferences in Colorado, Washington, Indiana, STN, and NSTA. I was also honored to speak at the University of Southern California’s Chief Business Official Certificate Program, and I look forward to sharing more exciting news about that partnership soon.
As another school year begins, thank you for everything you do for the students, families, and communities you serve. Every safe ride, every challenge you overcome, and every leader you encourage helps strengthen our profession.
